ADAPTIVE SURFING/KAYAKING FAQ'S
What should I bring on the day of the event?
You should bring anything with you that you would normally bring to the beach or out in the water. See below for a list of items we recommend, but please feel free to bring any additional items you may need:
- Sunscreen
- Snacks
- Hat
- Sunglasses
- Towel
- Change of Clothes
- Water/Gatorade
- Beach Chair
- Tent/Umbrella/Shade
- Personal lifejacket (we provide these for the session but if you have one you prefer, you're welcome to bring it)
How will we know when it's our turn to surf?
We will post a spreadsheet the evening before on Facebook of the time slots. We ask that you arrive roughly 45 mins ahead of your scheduled surf time, in case we can get you in the water sooner. Once signed in, you and your family should remain close to the tent in the event we are able to get you or your surfer in the water earlier than expected. If you leave the area near the tent, we may not be able to find you and you may lose your spot.
Where do we park?
The event will take place at the Eastern Regional Beach Access in Emerald Isle.
Parking will vary for participants & volunteers. See below.
Participants: You are welcome to park, at no cost, at the Eastern Regional Beach Access in Emerald Isle. Please let the attendant know you're with our group, and they'll be sure to provide you with a parking pass.
Volunteers: Thankfully with the support of the Bogue Banks Water Co., we are able to provide free parking to our volunteers at the vacant lot at 3100 Ocean Dr. The lot is about 2 blocks West of the Eastern Regional Beach Access. Please be sure to let the attendant know you're with our group and you'll be allowed to park for free.
PLEASE NOTE: There is a parking lot in the Eastern Regional Access that is allocated for the maintenance crew. Please DO NOT park in this spot. The crew have been a huge support and help for us and we want to make sure they have their space available when they arrive.
Is there charging for parking?
Emerald Isle does charge for parking from April 1–September 30. If you are a volunteer and plan to park in the Eastern Regional Access, please be prepared to pay to park.
Is Lunch Provided?
We often have food sponsored by our amazing community!
Are the Rashguards for Sale?
No, they are not for sale and need to be returned at the end of the event or at the end of your session. The amazing folks over at Sunshine Cleaners have offered up their services to professionally clean them for each event. They are expensive and hard to replace. So please be sure to return them. if you accidentally take one home, please just email us at cchadwick.aspnc@gmail.com and let us know and we can arrange a pick-up/drop-off location.
